The i5 isn't much better as far as what the benchmarks tell me http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i5-7400-vs-Intel-Core-i3-7300/3886vs3893

LOL, userbenchmark

I just want to build a entry level gaming pc I'm switching to pc from console on a budget of $500 not including the keyboard mouse and monitor and OS.

In gaming there wont be much of a difference. There will be a difference between i3 and i5 though, since the i5 has two additional cores and hyperthreading is no alternative to real cores.

Hyper thread is just virtual cores and not physical right. Making the quad core beat any dual core correct that has hyper threading

Yes, watch this video:

Those 2 cores make a big difference!

Basically, yes. Hyperthreading allows each physical core to run two processing threads. A "logical" core is not as good as a physical core, but it's better than not having Hyperthreading at all.

I would personally recommend waiting for the G4560 to come back in stock if that's the amount of money you want to spend. The i3 is fine, but unnecessarily more expensive for essentially the same product. The i5 is better than either—and userbenchmark is not a reliable way to disprove that—but your budget for this build is what it is.

the g4560 will be fine to be honest. You will be able to play games pretty well.

Any i5? Like older generations

You could probably go back a generation or two and still have an i5 that can probably beat the G4560. There are a lot of options for older i5's, but the i5-6500, i5-4670, and i5-4460 come to mind. If you can find a good price on those, they might be good alternatives. Just be aware they will need different motherboards and the i5-4xxx's will need DDR3 RAM rather than DDR4.
