So I noticed out of all the gaming i have ever done on a computer I have never OC it once. I see that because of the type of gaming i do I don't really need to OC the machine. So I am wondering if anyone can help me out making an awesome gaming rig in the $1000 range using Intel/Nvidia to power it. Also This is just the rig no peripherals and an OS is required. I am wanting a rig that can play just about anything there is out without OCing it. Oh I also plan on making this in a mini tower.

$1000 PC without OC'ing.....that's pretty dumb, might aswell live with OC'ing as there is no downside other than voiding warranties (who needs those amirite)

I mean OC'ing is basically giving you free performance at the cost of a bit of an extra cost on your electricity bill.

What kind of gaming do you do?

Do you need a copy of Windows? Any peripherals needed?

It's US dollars right?

You should oc though. For the gpu, it's verryy easy and gives tangible improvements.

Yes in  US dollars and i want a blue and black color for the parts if that's possible. This is my first build, I just wanna know the specs/price difference from a non OC and a OC.

Oc'ing the gpu doesn't cost anything more. You just raise the performance for free.

TY for that info. So you mean that even if i made a system that can OC it would probably be the same price just better performance?

On the gpu side, you don't buy anything extra.

For the cpu side, you'd invest more in a more expensive cpu, mobo, and cooler, but it's not essential for gaming.

OK cause if I do go with a OC mobo and processor i might go with the i5 3rd gen because their mobos are more of a blue color than the new 4th gen

OK thank you. I am also looking for a heatsink for my processor so that i can at least OC it but i do not want one that is so huge like some of them, Do you have any preference in anything that is probably the same size as the stock heatsink for the processor?

Haswell has better mobos in general. It's worth going Haswell just for that.

It's about $30-40 more for a k series cpu and $20-30 more for the mobo along with $30 for a Hyper 211 Evo. It's not really worth oc'ing the cpu for just light gaming in your case. The stock 4430 is plenty as is.

But would it be good to go for 4th gen stuff if i plan on upgrading down the road?

The only thing you'd really upgrade is the gpu and adding extra stuff. Few people replace the cpu.

The Hyper 212 Evo on WoodenMarker's list will let you do decent overclocking. Only thing is to do you will need to move to a Z87 motherboard and a K processor, which will take you over budget.

If you don't want to overclock, there is no reason to do so.

In fact there is risk in overclocking. You have to be willing to accept that it is possible to make a mistake and damage a part. Ignore the choruses of how easy it is to oc, how anyone can do it, how no one ever fries their cpu, how oc'd cpu never die after a year or two. But, if you do want to oc, go for it. It is frustrating fun.

Oh that was a mistake. I forgot to take out the 212 Evo. He doesn't even need it. The stock cooler is fine.

Nothing wrong with keeping it in. It's in budget and should let things run cooler, thus quieter.

For the same size as stock cooler & especially if you want blue color, I'd suggest you this:

I'd recommend sticking with stock and seeing how it is before preemptively ordering an aftermarket cooler.
