i don't think i will be moving over to radeon, I feel like the 1070 is a better price to performance card, and have a personal preferance towards that brand, i know that isnt the best reason to keep it, but i feel like the 1070 will be a better buy at my price point, and will perform well at 1440p. I know i wont get crazy frame rates, but with a decent g-sync monitor above 40 fps ill be happy. i want closer to 60 but i know that is a bit of a pipe dream for consistancy.

1070 can hit 1440p60+ in most games at high-ultra. If you are aiming for 60FPS don't buy a 144Hz monitor.

*AMD makes the cards, Radeon is just a branding term (like GeForce is for Nvidia)

i've had a number of people on this thread suggest moving to a z170 board, is it really worth 10-20 dollars in savings and trying to learn a new mobo bios setup? i know brand preferance doesn't count for much, but i feel like there are a lot of people adamantly suggesting a z170.

I'd keep Z270 for extra features but you could save 10-20 z170 if drop to z270

Get this board, it has on board wifi

the monitor was something i was unsure of. I am looking for a monitor with g-sync, and it seems to be the cheapest that has what I want

1440p

widescreen or better

60 fps or better

i know there are many other factors to a good monitor but im not at all familiar with the specifics, or their effects on performance. this monitor comes highly suggested on certain websites as the best reasonably budgeted monitor.

i will also be playing a number of e-sports games such as tf2, overwatch, and league, so 144 fps wont be wasted.

the monitor is one of the larger concerns for me, though the other imput is more than welcome

So what?

This thread isn't related to all of those "tons of computer builds" that you have claimed to have made. That's irrelevant.

This thread is only for the original poster's computer build and nothing else.

Ok, if you say so...

OP- your latest iteration was very good, but I'd skimp on the monitor and grab a GTX 1080. Or use the same monitor and get a 1080 by buying Windows from Kinguin or Reddit

the 1070 is more than enough for my build, so if the newer monitor will work with the setup i may switch it out and keep the savings.

does the new monitor perform on par with the monitor i listed? I know upgrading to the 1080 is worth it, but im already over budget, and would prefer not to chop out a good monitor since it will also double as my tv, since i won't be getting a tv and will be running all my media from this machine

The new monitor is 60FPS no GSync, but same reolution. A 1080 wil stay at or above 60FPS is virtually every game at 1440p so GSync isn't really needed.

You're making an assumption that a brand new an Intel Core i7-6700k can be had for $250.

In my computer build suggestion, it lists the price if purchased through a reputable vendor.

Why skimp on a monitor that the original poster wants?

If the original posted had that in his computer build, why make the assumption that he no longer needs it?

Why recommend 2 shady sources to obtain illegal Windows keys?

Your logic doesn't make any sense.

i know my incessant questioning is probably annoying, but this build will absolutely be over budget and a huge risk for me, so i need things to be perfect, or as close as possible, and will probably over plan, but I need alot of convincing to move to a 1080 over the 1070 considering the price hike. if i do get a 1080 will my system bottleneck it in any way? will i need better cooling? and if i downgrade the monitor while keeping the 1070 will i run into issues with tearing?

i listed the i7 at that price because i already have one from a friend at work, he built a number of computers for people, and ended up with one that he cant use, so he wants to sell it, its new, in the box, and purchased from a reputable dealer.

@Buzzsaw  my build lists the core i7 at that price as mentioned in the beginning, due to a deal i have found. that part will stay in the build at that price. thank you for your help, as well as your consideration. while your build is admirable, i will not be making the change to amd's radeon platform over intels nvidia platform at this time, as such i do not believe i will be using your build. again, thank you for you consideration and build suggestions.

this is my build as it currently stands

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Hs8bZ8

i am considering this build as an alternative, i do like the idea of putting my antenna closer to my router since my router is very far from my computer, and not so great. when i move i will be hardwiring, so its not exactly an issue.

Yeah either will work, the antenna on the Asus wifi card isn't really long and but still should be somewhat longer than the antenna that sticks out from the motherboard

the mother board is the same price at the same options as my current board, however, my current board is of one of my two prefered brands, so i will be staying with mine.

the ssd is a brand im not familiar with, and a price hike, so i will probably remain with my samsung evo 850

the power supply is at a lower rating and higher wattage than i need, and at a price hike, as well as only being semi modular, so i will probably remain with mine

the gpu i have listed is cheaper, performs very close to the one you listed, and is with a brand i prefer as well as being an appearance i prefer, so i will be staying with it.

the memory is the same performance, at a better price, and i will admit, i splurged, with the 5 dollar led's, i will probably go with that memory.

I would recommend purchasing the full version of windows rather than the OEM as you can only use the OEM once and you wont recieve any free support from microsoft if someing where to ever go wrong. Heres the full version. You dont have to get it but just in case.

As long as you keep your pc windows reinstalling will still keep your os

i know asrock and gigabyte are just fine, but if the price is the same for both, i will stick with asus and msi, asus is my personal favorite though. i know its bad to let brand preferancing change your decision, but the mobos are almost the same, and the same price.
