I already have private internet access as my VPN service now.  I want to use a proxy instead

Proxies are dead. They are insecure, slow, and down right bad. Just use a VPN

A real proxy like a SOCKS5 proxy? Those are much more rare, PIA does off it but only in the Netherlands I believe. You can setup your own relatively easily with the help of Google and a VPS in NYC (I recommend RamNode, they're the only reputable VPS provider I know of in NYC and I have a few servers with them for dirt cheap... plus Nick is a good guy).

Then I recommend sticking to a VPN, there would be no benefit of a SOCKS5 proxy over a VPN.

yes, I have antidetect but I do not know how to use it.  If you have any other suggestions that would be useful

I know that they can hide my location and give me a fake one and I should be able to choose a specific place I want

VPNs do the same thing if you have them configured correctly. The problem is that if the location is not close to you then it would add extra latency (slowness) to your connection.

The bigger problem (Or solution) is if you really don't know what you doing it really will not be hard for anyone to trace where you are from. VPN's can be fantastic but yes that Latency will always become a issue.

Why exactly do you need to be in NYC ?  cause if you planning anything frowned upon you might as well not bother with your current skill set/experience to try hide it.
