Hi Guys,

got here the start of a £400 pc plan (for a friend, spent ages talking him out of a ps4) already £7 over budget and no case. What parts should i downgrade without losing too much performance? was thinking about 4gb ram now with 1 stick so he could upgrade later to 8gb. Or changing the 7950 for a r9 270x but then he wouldn't get the free games.

the parts so far:

any suggestions?

thanks in advance.

I like it.

I know this isn't an answer to the question you asked but id recommend your friends saves up some more money so he can spend around £700/£800 and make the purchase worth it instead of going with low end products or at least spend more money on the power supply and case so in the future when your friend has the money... he can then upgrade to better components. Id recommend the corsair 650d/750d case or the corsair 540 air. Also fractal do good cases and some of Coolmasters cases are good also. I recommend getting a 750w power supply at least, although this may be overkill with the current components you specified it wouldn't be overkill in the future.

its not really a case of saving up extra money, he has the money but he doesn't want to spend much more money than the ps4.

Ahhhhh okay I get you but that doesn't really make sense because one of the main advantages pc has is the graphics capability and if he isn't going to utilize that then what's the point apart from PC peripherals are much more accurate and better to use but graphics is a big part of the pc gaming experience. So he may as well get a ps4 although I wouldn't recommend a ps4 over a pc :)

Id just spend more money and go b**ls deep to get the best experience and advantages given from a PC in comparison to consoles

to be fair a 7950 will still give a much better experience than ps4, if it was for me i would spend more money but its for him so i have to respect his wishes.

I agree with the pushing the budget a little more.

650/750D or 540air, yes sure spend 1/5th off the budget ~ on the case. That will work just fine. A case is a part where you should cheap out on, if you don't want to spend to much. There are good enough £30/40 cases on the market.

750W is for SLI/CF. Even in the future 650W is for sure more then enough. You could get away with a 600W. For now most single cards systems pull about 350-450W out off the wall during heavy load. 750W is way to much for a single card system.

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/21MCN here is my suggestion. 50pounds higher, but more balanced system. Aswell has a case.

NZXT Phantom windowed, Asus Z77 Sabertooth, Intel 2600K, Noctua NH-D14, EVGA 780 Classified, Crucial Ballistic Tactical, Crucial M4 128GB + Samsung 850 EVO, Corsair RM850, Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty Peripherals: Sennheiser HD598, FinalMouse Classic, SteelSeries Qck Heavy, Ducky Shine Zero (MX Brown), AOC G2460PF & Qnix QX2710

Build Log: Phantom - Antique Noctua

This is what im looking at now:

I wouldn't use an A55 mobo for a quad core cpu. Bump up to an A75.

Also, I have yet see a 7950 run stable on a cx430. Don't do it.

Bump down to a 7850, get a slightly better wireless card--300mbps would be nice. Might want to get a PS08 or N200 for a case instead in case he wants to use a Hyper 212 Evo in the future for oc'ing. The Core 1000 although great doesn't fit large heatsinks.

If you ever need help with a build, read the following before posting: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/3061-build-plan-thread-recommendations-please-read-before-posting/

thanks for the advice, i am probably going to have to drop the card to improve on the psu and generally get the build cheaper, about the wireless card there is no point internet is 60mbps MAX and he doesn't do any streaming. cheers for the advice ill swap some components and post an update.
