Cpu upgrade advice

Go to solution Solved by RollinLower,

if you want to stay low budget the I7 2600 should fit your needs nicely. still a capable chip for 1080P gaming!

also, this way you won't need a new mobo or RAM, and you can spend the cash you saved on a better GPU, like a 480.

Hi so I am looking to upgrade my cpu I currently have a i3 2120 running on a h61 motherboard can anybody suggest a cpu upgrade that will allow me to play games at 720p to 1080p the gpu will be a rx 460 or a gtx 960 not sure yet,  also must be available second hand in the UK not looking to spend silly amounts of money.

See if you can get a used R9 380 instead of a 960. That said...

Pretty much any modern Intel CPU will be an upgrade. An i5 7500 should work alright.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

I recommend getting a new motherboard first. The H61 series of things is very outdated. A H170 board would be a good choice. If you do decide upon getting a board like that, an i5 6500 or i7 6700 would be a great choice.

CPU: Intel Core i7 8700

GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070

MOBO: ASUS Z370-F STRIX

RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 2133MHz

That's no longer an upgrade at that point, that's an entire platform change. Not only does that require a new board and CPU, but new DDR4 modules as well.
