Hi guys,

I'm looking for a driverless WiFi adapter to use with my Xbox One.

The router my ISP gave us has an issue where between 19:00 and 22:30 the internet becomes close to unusable on my Xbox and my laptop.

While it works on all other devices in the house, these two are unusable during this time. I've contacted my ISP countless times but they refuse to take responsibility and since i live in shared accommodation, I'm unfortunately not allowed to replace the router.

I read that a WiFi adapter may solve my problem and would like to give it a try.

I contacted Xbox support and they told me only driverless WiFi adapters would work with the Xbox one.

I've been looking for one around the place but so far I've only found one on eBay and it would ship from the USA and take far too long..

Since this is a bit of a hit and miss, I'd quite like the adapter to be as cheap as possible and to ship fairly quickly to the UK. Can anyone recommend something like that?

It doesn't need to have great range nor great speeds since my router is 10m away and i don't need the full 75Mb/s For gaming.

Thanks guys!

pretty much ever wifi adaptor is driverless, just go on ebay, search for a wireless adaptor, and make sure it's from the UK and just buy the cheapest.

Intel i5-6600K@4.2GHz, 16GB Crucial DDR4-2133, Gigabyte Z170X-UD3, Be quiet shadow rock slim, Sapphire RX 480 Nitro+ OC, Fractal design Integra M 550W, NZXT S340, Sandisk X110 128GB, WD black 750GB, Seagate momentus 160GB, HGST 160GB

I don't think such a thing exists. You still need drivers to work the Wi-Fi adapter, it's just that OSes these days may package the driver already for popular models. And who knows what the XB1 has since it already has a Wi-Fi module. And you can't exactly install drivers on the XB1 because, well, it's not a PC (even though it is).

Your best bet is to get a Wi-Fi to Ethernet adapter. Or run a Ethernet line to the router.

But they all come with a CD including the latest drivers?

they just do, but as the xbox one uses a version of W10, and W10 ships with built in wifi drivers, for realtek, atheros, broadcom, and intel wireless chipsets, but it's likely that the xbox doesn't come with any extra drivers which in that case you'd need to use a wired connection or a wireless bridge.

just buy the cheapest 99p adaptor and see if it works, if it doesn't consider going wired.

Do other devices have issues as well or just your Xbox? Because if its an ISP issue, no wireless adapter is going to help.

Also, they have devices called wireless media bridges that connect thru Ethernet. Those I dont believe require drivers. It might be worth looking in to. OR if you have an older router laying around. Install DDWRT on it and use it as a wireless bridge. I did this for a while with a old machine I had. It works pretty good, no drivers will be needed.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Only my main laptop. My windows 10 tablet and android phone dont have the problem. According to the BT forums its a problem with the router they gave us.

Unfortunately I cant use an ethernet connection as it would have to run through the living room and down the hall way and would be a bit of a nuisance.

Since im moving out in 2 months im just looking for a slightly crappy but cheap solution really

The issue you have is this. Phone has shitty WiFi radios in them generally. So if your phone doesn't have issues and only your X box then I would say your X box has a shit WiFi adapter. In that case look in to a media bride. As I state its Ethernet to the media bridge and Wifi from the bridge to the router. You wont have to run a shit load of Ethernet, just enough to connect the media bridge to the Xbox.

Heres what I mean: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833122671

It connects to the router wireless but, you connect to it wired. Standard WiFi repeaters tend to suck dick. But this might work better. Not saying to buy the one I linked. I just wanted to show you want I mean. You might find something cheaper.

Sorry, I meant that my Laptop and my Xbox have WiFi issues while my Tablet and my Phone do not.

Id generally agree with you but since the problem only occurs with this single Router and only between 7pm and 10.30pm I dont think its an issue with my xbox.

The suggestion you gave is actually still really good and I didnt know something like that even existed but to be honest, since I have to move soon anyway and I have to fly home with all my stuff I think its a bit too much of an investment, money and space wise.

Thanks for the help though.
