Need access to an admin account?

Hello, wonderful people of Linus Tech Tips forums! 


I recently purchased a Nextbook 10.1 from a second-hand shop it was originally a display model from a Walmart. 

However, the issue I am encountering is due to it being a display model all admin abilities are locked behind an admin account that is password protected!

Sadly they did not provide me with the password for said admin account.

I do have access to a local account which gives me the abilities to do basic things, however, installing programs is out of the question on this account. 

So is there any way I can get into the admin account or possibly gain admin rights somehow?

nah OP shouldn't buy a physical product for that.

 

just re-install windows or make your own password stripper USB stick.

 

(I'd recommend a re-install to wipe off any demo software/gunk)

@RadiatingLight Forgive me for the stupid question but is it as simple as just reinstalling over an existing version of windows?

Or what is the proper steps I would take on that front?

get a windows install USB stick.

boot off said USB stick

follow instructions to wipe the existing drive on the laptop and install windows.

done!

^ this is very oversimplified.
