970 g1 died PC Forensics Time!

palespartan

So this is definitely not a rant against gigabyte because this card has served me very well for I think over 2 years now. And I modded my own bios and put it on there on top of the fact that it was in sli with another 970 g1 with the same bios mod. Mostly just want someone who is also a serious overclocker to confirm what I think happened.

So the bios mod runs 1.281v to gpu for a stable 1518mhz (folding 27/7 have pushed it much further for benching runs on same voltage.) But the other day I came home and my computer was off at first I figured that power just went out but as i try to turn it on nothing happens until i disconnect everything and try resetting the psu then the infamous black smoke and smell of dead electronic hit. Luckily everything else is still working fine so its all put back together. Now I don't know what the temperatures were exactly but it was a warm day (74f) but I also left my temp limit to 79 like I always do and have had no problem in the past with overheating but never the less this one is dead. I'm assuming that the vrm overheated and shorted since there is no sign of water anywhere in the system and it had a back plate the also has no sign of water damage anywhere. But interested to hear what you all think always liked pc forensics.

Good thing you have a 3 yr warranty.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Receipt or Invoice needed for RMA.

(Unless they take your word for it after you give your GPU serial numbers)

that shouldn't be a problem I bought it from newegg so worst case scenario they will be able to find it for me. But definite thanks for the heads up.
