Bottleneck Fear !

Hi ! 

 

 

Later this month I want to upgrade my old GTX 680 for a GTX 1080 Ti (If I manage to grab one before they are out of stock ahah). But I don't know if my CPU will bottleneck my new card. I'm currently using : i7-4770K Stock 3.5GHz TurboBoost at 3.9 GHz,Corsair HX 750Watt PSU and a ROG Maximus Formula VII motherboard with 16 Go RAM. I'm also willing to buy a new 1440p monitor. I need your help before buying a decent 1440p monitor and the GTX 1080 Ti.

tbh almost any cpu will bottleneck a 1080ti in some scenarios but that being said you have a very nice i7 that should give you great performance out of a gtx 1080ti.

Should be fine. Maybe you want to overclock it a bit, but for the most part I should be ok.

If you have a K Sku you should always overclock, not doing so is a waste of money and makes Linus cry.

Wow thanks a lot guys ! Tell me if i' wrong, but I heard it's better to play on a 2K/1440p monitor with a 1080 Ti. Is it true ?

Yes, the 1080ti is a great 1440p card. Able to push over 100fps in most games. Its also a capable 4k card, able to hit 60fps on High/Ultra in most games

Unless you have a 1080p 240 hz monitor 1440p or 4k is definitely the resolution for it. As @Moress said it can push over 100 fps at 1440p and also should be able to reach 4k 60hz no problem.

Well, yes, because the 1080Ti is really aimed at higher resolutions (honestly you could go 4K and hit 60FPS in most games at high-ultra)

Those are two different things. 2K = 'cinema' full HD (2048 horizontal by anything vertical)

1440p = 2560x1440

What is your budget? Though this monitor is an excellent choice, as it's 1440p 165 hz with g sync for only $450. If you want more than 24" the 27" version costs $550.

I'm Canadian so everything cost more.... I'm willing to pay 1800 CA$ up to 2000 max for both GPU and monitor. 24'' is enough for me. I have two 23'' 1080p monitor right now and i'm more than happy with them.

It looks like you can get the monitor here for $600 CAD or so. If you want 27" with IPS then you can check out this though it's $270 CAD more. Only differences between the two are IPS and screen size.

 

EDIT: If you do get the Dell just make sure to calibrate it before using it. Judging by reviews people say the colors are pretty bad out of the box but if you tune it a bit it gets pretty good.

For a 1080Ti I'd get a 27" IPS 1440p 144Hz+ GSync, basically best of the best for gaming

I have a i7 4770k at stock speed and ive pre-ordered my GTX 1080TI custom. I currently game on 1080p 120hz. But im upgrading to 1440p 144hz also ordered .This is due to the GTX 1080TI getting better preformance at 1440p. Your wasting alot of GPU power at 1080p for the 1080ti. It was a hard choice been thinking about it for 6 months now. But ive decided its time for a monitor upgrade. The CPU will bottleneck MORE at 1080p in certain games over at to a lesser effect at 1440p. So its worth upgrading your monitor.

 

Also ive been on youtube alot. There is a guy. Called Totalgaming. He has a 1080TI at 1440p with a 4770k at stock speed playing some of the lastest AAA games. It worth checking out his videos you can see the FPS hes getting. For example. Mass Effect 4 hes hitting well over 70fps to 100fps in game. Seriously upgrade your monitor. 

 

Your losing preformance sticking at 1080p for the 1080ti. Anything less then 1080p will be fine
