Please tell me what this cable is for.

I just might be brain farting over level 9000, or i looked from the wrong places, anyway, Let's get to the point:

It's been a while now, but i got this cable with my Galaxy S4.

It's just straight micro usb to hdmi, now, i thought this was for sharing the screen with MHL but for what i found, the "proper" MHL adapters need some additional power. This is just straight micro usb to hdmi.

What first came to my mind, is that i probably need to enable the screen mirroring thing from settings.. witch i don't have since i'm sporting Cyanogen Mod.

Two questions:

Am i just not thinking outside the box, and this cable is meant for something else?

Or should i try going back to touchwiz and testing the screen mirroring thing, because i don't remember if i tried it at all when i first got the phone.

(Note: I have backups of the touchwiz rom so going back isn't a huge problem)

Thanks in advance

EDIT: Forgot to add this :)

When i plug the hdmi to my monitor, it tries automatically to get a signal from a MHL source, but it ends up not getting a picture. I guess i'll try with touchwiz when i have a bit of time.

most cyanogenmod roms dont support hdmi. if u really want to display your phone to a tv or monitor or screen capture your phone then yea u may need to go back to touchwiz roms or GPE rom

I have an MHL adaptor for my HTC One X and I use it alot which is one of the reasons I do not have Cyanogen Mod and mine requires micro USB power to be plugged into the cable as well.

What you have is a passive MHL cable.

The "proper" ones you're talking about are a cable for regular HDMI ports.

Passive MHL cable require that the display have an MHL capable HDMI port.
