Need a super tiny 500w psu

Go to solution Solved by b105f00d,

What I recommend is using a low powerered GFX card that won't require a PSU upgrade. A lot of the lower end 10-series NVIDIA cards are super low power draw and you may be able to pull it off. Just be sure to get a slim/low profile model.

Dell tends to run PSUs like this:

On the case, you can see some what looks like extra room from the edge of the PSU/screw housing to the side of the case, unless its occupied by some Dell Plastic Shroud type crap or hard drive like usual n the SFF cases.

There are some strange alternatives out there that probably won't fit without modding the case:

ie. APEVIA ITX-AP250W but its 250Watts or 300Watts not 500watts. Here.

OR....

You could mount a secondary PSU externally, and connect it to the component that you need powered which I'm assuming is your graphics card. (of course you'll need to mod the PSU, or hook it up to a dummy motherboard but the mods aren't difficult.)

The only real alternative to any of this, is fitting an HDPlex PSU into your case as a secondary PSU. It can fit just about anywhere... Just maybe drill a hole in the back and run a power cable to it.

Okay so I bought a pretty shitty "gaming" PC from dell before I even knew about building my own. So I am now trying to outfit it with some actual gaming gear. This is the PC-

here's the problem, it is super ultra mega tiny. It is about the size of 2 Xbox ones and I have a very tiny section for the psu. I have bought a 500w evga psu and it didn't fit :(

ive found that a GTX 1060 mini will fit in the graphics card slot, but I just need a psu to actually use it! Pls help

I was going to say get an SFX PSU also. For example: http://www.corsair.com/en-us/sf-series-sf600-600-watt-80-plus-gold-certified-high-performance-sfx-psu

But looking at the images on Dell's site it looks like something proprietary. See point 13 below. It's square instead of rectangular.
