It's just a legacy connector for old keyboards and mice. They require no controllers like USB so if the USBs start going funky in Windows they'll save your life :P

I don't know about Linus using them like crazy. I am not 100% technically why but USB can become not usable but PS/2 will continue to work. So if you need to get into the BIOS or use any type of input it is a life saver. I have never had USB not work so I am not sure in what scenario you would need it

Ps2 is great for issues because it has been baked into windows and the NT kernal since the start so there should be no driver issues.

It's just a legacy connector for old keyboards and mice. They require no controllers like USB so if the USBs start going funky in Windows they'll save your life :P

PS/2 ports have significantly less latency than USB, making them better for gaming mice and keyboards if you ask eSport competitors.

It also will always work every BIOS if it's on the mainboard, USB equivalents might not.

Because PS/2 is an old hardware interrupt system, it's well validated, simple, and significantly more reliable than a good deal of ports we have today.

 

Basically, for troubleshooting any and all USB issues, it's a godsend.

 

And on my Gaming Pro Carbon, it's actually surprising I've not had to use it when I first got it, as USB firmware issues were more than a slight annoyance for many people.

The USB drivers built into the BIOS stop working. PS/2 is completely analog which means it doesn't need any drivers whatsoever.

Windows XP. Plug the KB into a different USB port or a new KB and get ready to wait ten minutes on the login screen for it to install drivers. PS/2 doesn't need drivers.
