Are my drives dying?

gardnerphotos

I am using 2 drives in my system, an OCZ Agility 3 120GB SSD for OS and a seagate barracuda 3TB HDD for storage, I decided to run Crystal Disk on them and got some VERY low scores, could they be dying on me?!

No. They're mechanical, so they're not going to be like 200MB/s or anything crazy like that.

If your SSD is 93% filled, that will probably be slowing it down, free up some space on it.

Yes, SSD is non mechanical but still slows down near full capacity.

Error: 410

If you're really worried, you can try using a program that can read the S.M.A.R.T. values of your HDD.

Honestly crystal disk would suck if it didn't have a anime girl to fap while it tests on it

You can defrag you HDD, this could improve performance a bit.

DON'T DEFRAG AN SSD. YOU WILL KILL IT!

Your SSD is probably a bit too full for it to really kick butt. try moving some stuff you don't need to your HDD. (Steam installs?)

Does anyone even use PCIe SSDs?

Defragging SSDs does not kill them. Defragging them excessively will. The reason why SSDs become slow over time is because the controller constantly monitors data and as the SSD becomes more full, the controller starts being pushed harder and harder. Eventually, the controller becomes pushed to the wall and the SSD becomes slow. You'll get the same effect when disabling Trim in your OS and over time the SSD would become slow because deleted data doesn't get removed immediately.

Just an FYI, my Agility 3 120GB performs the exact same as yours. It's just not a great SSD IMO.
