Preordering games, advice?

Hydra

So, I'm probably just as hyped as everyone else about MEA right now. I want to pre-order it, however, I have not pre-ordered from G2A before. Is this even trustworthy? It's like £10 cheaper than Origin so it's a little off-putting, too good to be true? Like how can they get the keys cheaper already?

Dont. Including what was said above regarding reviews, also wait for the inevitable first week sale. And let bugs get ironed out.

Regarding G2A, just look it up and all th e surrounding controversy. If price has you worried, it'll be cheaper from reputable third parties soon enough.

True, but performance is a big concern with PC games. I had some friends that pre-ordered a game a while ago (think it was a Warhammer game) that performed like complete crap.

But its better to make that judgement based on what youre reading than to throw money down the drain, than not end up liking it.

Ive bought about 40 games from G2A, and about 6 pre-orders.

Only 2 of the games were fake, and its not G2A's fault, its the sellers committing fraud, and when you report them, they get banned

And all fo the pre-orders were genuine.

I pre-ordered fom G2A:

BF1

BF4

R6S

and a few others

All of them worked great

Only preorder games you're sure of when it comes to quality. After that, it's up to you whether to preorder or not as the worth is how you measure its value.

The last game I pre-ordered was back in 2010. Did I not once think the game could be terrible. Crazy how much confidence everyone has lost in developers, thanks no man sky?

If you want an example of a pre-order/ early public alpha game to re-install trust, look at 'Prison Architect' (my 2nd favorite game of all time) and 'Star Citizen'

Even Fallout 4 is an example of this.  If the company has your money 2, 3, 4 or more months in advance, they have no need to improve the game and feel free to dice it up as much as possible to make more DLC. Last pre-order I had was Destiny and look at what happened there.  Pay for the first 1/4 of the game and  then buy the other 3/4 that was SUPPOSED to be part of the base game.

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

That's true of consumer reviews, which are generally pointless when it comes to deciding if you should buy a product or not. Look for professional reviews that show and explain why they believe something is good or bad in technical depth.

Don't Pre-order especially from a grey market site, how are you supposed to refund the game when its bad or performs poorly?

Usually I'm a big advocate for not pre-ordering games. But I'm also a big hypocrite because I do pre-order games from time to time. :P

I pre-ordered MEA at 20% off through Green Man Gaming. Heard too many stories about G2A and therefore, I don't trust it, personally.

As for pre-ordering, there's a specific criteria I use when judging when to pre-order and when not to. I believe in some cases it is OK to do so and not get burned. I have not been burned by a pre-order yet (knock on wood). ;)

A list of a few things I take into account before pre-ordering:

-If it's a brand new game (not from a previous series), like No Man's Sky and is not built on any known/proven game engine, then do not pre-order. Wait for reviews after release.

-If they promise A LOT of things that seem too good to be true, again, don't touch it before release/reviews.

-If it's from a lesser-known publisher/dev, look at other works from said devs and be very skeptical (don't pre-order).

-If it's part of a well-known series by known devs and the previous installments have been good (The Witcher, Mass Effect, GTA, Tomb Raider, etc.) then it is usually safe to pre-order.

-If they did not rush development/porting and weren't afraid to push back the release date to "make it good/right" (like GTA5 for PC), then it's probably safe to pre-order.

Just as a side note: I've also found I enjoy games much more so when I avoid seeking details about the game, avoid watching any gameplay footage and don't listen to any commentary or opinions or "early impressions" from anyone prior to release. I like going in "blindfolded" so to speak, with no pre-conceived notions. But that's just me.
