Unless you really need the cores, Zen isnt very good for gaming (Especially 1080p), it would be better to get a 6700/7700 instead.

So should I go with older 6700 or Kady Lake 7700. Also do you need an aftermarket cooler or is stock ok?

7700k if you can pay a little for for a new B250/H270 motherboard (Unless you have a old skylake CPU to update a H170/B150/H110 which you probs dont), but they both perform very similar anyway. Stock will be fine if your not OC'ing, just a little louder.

Its not that loud, but aftermarket coolers are quieter. If you are willing to pay more for a bit less noise, go for it, but it wont improve performance any.

I am trying to build for editing and some gaming, looking to play space citizen, but that's the only AAA game I am looking at. I have a $2000 budget and don't need KB, Mouse or Monitor. Probably should post on New Builds, but I wanted to see what CPU to get first. And is OVerclocking worth all the effort??

these days getting a good overclock isn't really hard most of the time you just hit the ez overclock option in the bios and it gets you a decent overclock with no hassle

Has anyone pointed out to OP yet that 6600k and 7700s and so on don't come with stock coolers? You need an aftermarket cooler.

i5 6600k and GTX 1070 but I play 1600-900. 1440p BABY!

Still, don't put too much faith in my buying decisions. xD

So the 7700k and a Z270 mobo would be better? I saw on LTT an all copper air cooler that was pretty cool but I can't remember what it was.

yes if your getting a 7700k the z270 would be best also you may want to look at a AIO water cooler if you want it to be quiet or just a really big air cooler something like a noctua NH-D15 would be a good air cooler though it is big

I'm running i7 7700 with stock cooler and I can make sure that it's very loud if running at maximum which I do most of the time because I do not want any sudden shutdown at any given time, but if you'd run it at 50% or lower, using the silent profile coming with the BIOS settings, it's pretty fine anyway.

Mobo: ASRock B150M Pro4s | CPU: Intel core i7 7700 with stock cooler | Storages: 2x80GB Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm + Zotac 120GB | Memory: 2x4GB Kingston HyperX Fury | PSU: 400W HYN 80+ | GPU: PowerColor Radeon R9 270X 2GB | Tower: an old one from the other decade | Monitor: ASUS Widescreen 900p + ViewSonic FHD| Speaker: microlab
