Strange sound from HDD.

Rubi8602

Not sure where I was supposted to post this topic so I am posting it here.

Some strange sound like ticking is coming maybe from HDD but not sure. It's interval is 1 minute or more and even appear on light usage. (It's getting more often by the time)

I just attached Mp3 file so you can hear it.

One morning after my PC was awake all night it started ticking around 6 times in a row then I tried to open Task Manager and it was like windows file deleted messege. All the icons just desapeared and Ctrl + Alt + Delete did nothing, like windows was deleted. After powering it off then back on just the bios shows off... no windows logo or something. Later was everething alright.

So my question is: Is it from the HDD and if it is, is this clicking of death? :/ Have I to be afraid??

Basically any sounds from the HDD other than the normal - are a bad sign. I'd use it just for storing an extra-extra backup of media or something - if it's big enough.

Agree... it will be better to use it for backup. It will be to brutal to watch every day how it's dying :/

Don't use it though! Just put the files on it - disconnect and let it gather dust on a shelf. Thankfully they age gracefully.
