First off, I am sorry if this is the wrong section of our forum, but I didn't know where to post it.

Now to the actual problem.

I want to change my system to a ryzen mini itx build and thus will have more cores available.

I have no experience  with virtual machineserver, but I would like to try one for a second instance of minecraft. So basically a four core machine for minecraft with dedicated mouse and keyboard.  Would that be possible? Do I need a second gpu for that?

You could do that, but there are several hurdles:

  • The host has to be Linux, because Windows has no provision to virtualize the GPU
  • You need two GPUs
  • You need two Windows licenses

You could use something called multiseat which can allow two different sessions on the same PC/instance, but if we take this guy's experience http://martin-ueding.de/en/articles/windows-multiseat/index.html, it's iffy at best.

Thank you. Good info.

I guess not really happening ...I mean I want itx and that kills the option for dual gpu.

you *do* know that minecraft is one of those games that you can run a bunch of side by side as long as you have the resources right?

and in case you mean being able to play both at once, you shouldnt be doing that on an ITX system, there's more problems than just the GPU's gonna pop up.

EDIT: also, appareantly IOMMU is *still* a mess on ryzen, so chances are gpu passtrough isnt gonna work anyways.

I have no idea. Never done anything like that, no experience with it. It is just that I play minecraft every once in a while with my daughter and my laptop (ivy bridge i5 dual core with HT) isn't really up to the task. I want a ryzen buidl anyways, so I thought it might be possible to combine that in some way.

my statement on gaming VMs remains that it is a fun gimmick, but you're just better off building 2 systems.
