OK, so I disconnected everything, took the motherboard out of the case and it finally booted :D I'm going to install the motherboard standoffs and see if it works once it's all back in the case.

P.S. It all works back inside the case

I just got two GTX 1080 Tis and and installed them into my PC. It booted correctly, I installed the drivers played some games and it all worked well. But then I then turned the PC off and when I try to turn it on, the fans spin up and the lights in the case turn on for about a second, the PSU clicks and everything turns off, then it turns back on again, but there is no signal to the display. I tried resetting CMOS, but it made no difference. The post codes on my mother board (ASUS X99 Strix) cycle between what looks like 35, 60, 6d. I tried both GPUs separately, and then together, but it makes no difference. I also tried all the PCIE slots (and tried different VGA power cables) I also don't have another GPU to test with. I'm really frustrated because I can't figure out what's going on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What is make model and capacity of your power supply?

Have you tried it with just one 1080TI ?

The PSU is an EVGA Supernova 850W P2. I tried only one 1080 Ti and both. Interestingly, when I try to power on the PC without any GPU installed, the exact same behaviour is displayed. So I'm guessing that the motherboard doesn't detect either of the GPUs?

looking at the motherboard codes, they seem to indicate normal startup, 35 = CPU post-memory installation, 60 = DX core is started, and 6d = System Agent DXE initialization (System Agent module specific).

Are there any LEDs that are still lit up affter trying to boot?

If no,

I can only think that the drivers caused some issue.

If you have a spare USB you might be able to download linux and boot off the USB.

sounds like something isnt getting powered, could be really unfortunate timing and some bad luck with your power supply (even the highest quality power supplies have a chance of going belly up, however small), or your mobo not properly recognising the GPUs for some reason.

you could try wiggling all your power supply cables, sounds like a really goofy suggestion, but sometimes they just dont make contact properly.

There two lights on the motherboard that alternate from red to orange every time the post code goes from 6d back to 35 and the cycle continues. I believe these are the CPU_LED and the VGA_LED

this may fix but does require thermal paste

pull ram

reboot shutdown reinstall ram reboot fixed then done

pull cpu reboot shutdown reinstall reboot

i dont know any other way reset flags on north south bridges known bug that never been fixed

bridge runs pci lanes is only programmed run one gpu

why i will not buy mobo with onboard gpu if i plan on using pci card

I'm thinking of taking the whole motherboard apart (daily because I'm not sure if I correctly installed all the motherboard standoffs) and testing it outside the case, but I'll have to do that tomorrow.

Yeah, the issue is with the CPU and/or the GPU. Probably not getting power.

That should resolve any issues with connectors not being properly installed.
