Hey forum,

Would just like some advice on my current build. Any advice given will be taken in to consideration so please be legit with me.

So these are the parts I plan to buy for my first build:

- Intel Core i5-7600K 3.8GHz Quad-Core Processor

- Corsair H100i v2 70.7 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler

- Asus Z170-AR ATX LGA1151 Motherboard

- Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory

- Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive

- Western Digital Blue 3TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive

- Asus GeForce GTX 1070 8GB Dual Series Video Card

- Corsair Carbide 400C White ATX Mid Tower Case

- Corsair CSM 550W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply

- TP-Link TL-WN881ND PCI-Express x1 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi Adapter

- Windows 10 :)

I already have the Case, CPU Cooler and Motherboard in hand.

What I'm most effy about is the Power Supply. I just don't know if that's alright for the build. I've been watching alot of them videos about how a PSU can completely destroy a build. (fry parts)

(And yes I know this build of mine which I created myself is based on white components so yeah... Also noticed that it mostly consist of Corsair and Asus. LOL)

The budget was 2g's AU (Not including Windows)

but is that enough Watts to run the PC?

remember to quote please...

2g's au? How much is that on au dollars?

Remember to quote me (or someone else), otherwise we won't going to recieve your answers...

I'd recommend this, the i7 will help prevent fps drops and stuttering with the i5 is prone to with a gtx 1070.

Is your motherboard BIOS updated to support the i5 7600K since it's newer than the board itself? Also get a 7200RPM drive.

It's okay, but the i5 is prone to stuttering and fps drops with an i7, and the i7 will also provide better framerates for gaming.

Their fine, but the i7 will offer slightly better maximums and more consistent frames. Not a huge difference, but a good difference.

I wouldn't say it's prone to stuttering, it's pretty good with the 1070. But the i7 will obviously be a tad better.

You will need the kabylake supported bios already installed for the 7600/7700k to work. See if there's any computer stores or distributors that can flash the bios for you.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Heatsink: Gelid Phantom Black GPU: Palit RTX 3060 Ti Dual RAM: Corsair DDR4 2x8GB 3000Mhz mobo: Asus X570-P case: Fractal Design Define C PSU: Superflower Leadex Gold 650W

Is there a fee for it or do they do it free of charge?

I'm not sure, should have a fee for computer stores unless you bought the motherboard there

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Heatsink: Gelid Phantom Black GPU: Palit RTX 3060 Ti Dual RAM: Corsair DDR4 2x8GB 3000Mhz mobo: Asus X570-P case: Fractal Design Define C PSU: Superflower Leadex Gold 650W

Yeah as mentioned above you need the BIOS update for the Z170 MOBO if you want the CPU to work.

You bought the right CPU to fit the CPU socket, but not according to BIOS.

Going to a local tech store that can fix it for you shouldn't be expensive however, it'll take them about an hour.

It's worth it. Another idea would be sending the MOBO back and swapping it for a Z270 model, made for your current CPU.

I recommend the tech store sollution though.

Aside from that the 7600k is plenty for the 1070. I5's bottelneck at higher framrates at 1080, but not much to be honest.

You probably wont notice it, and if you play at 1440p/4K the bottleneck wont be CPU bound anyways.

At the end of it all your build seems fine in my eyes.

Ah thanks mate, I've changed the build abit. Updated the HDD to a 3.5" toshiba 3tb Internal and changed from a i5 7600k to the i7 7700k like you all have suggested.

But I will for sure be looking around for tech stores to see if I'm able to update the bios when I pick up the i7 and the CS550M in 2 weeks.

Sounds good!

Can I suggest going for the newer GREY CXM units? They seem to be quite popular now.

I have personally never heard of CSM.

Looked into your suggestion. The CX500/600 comes with a rating of bronze 80. The CS550 that i have has a rating of 80 gold. The Cx is also 20 dollars cheaper for me.

Question,  does the ratings really matter or is that just a psu gimmick?

It's really not a huge difference between the two either way, check out this tier list (tier 3):

As you can see they're in the same tier, so mostly the performance should be the same.

I recommend them for the price and the fact that they're new.

In the end it's your choice either way.

Just to clarify with you

It's this one right?

https://au.pcpartpicker.com/product/R2mxFT/corsair-power-supply-cp9020103na

Plus, your recommendation is good. It's much cheaper than the CS.

And the one I was looking at the gray cx550m had no price.. So I linked the cx650m

Also, DAMMIT, I wish i got the Asus PRIME Z270. was just an extra 40 bucks.

I would have gone i7 and 1080 but like. I'm really digging the solid white on the Asus 1070 dual series.

I would get an 7200RPM HDD instead. There are 7200RPM and 5400RPM version of the WD blue.
