CPU without a cooler

Hi all, I ran a 4670k without a cooler for 1-2 minutes before turning it off. Is there any chance I could have permanently broken the chip? Thanks

What were you doing? Was it idle? If so you may have a chance but i would say it is dead

I turned it on, saw that the mobo worked, turned it off

literally 1 minute

the bios isn't very intensive, and the PC should shut down if it gets too hot, but with no cooler at all it may not shut down in time. the best way to find out is to put on a cooler and test it.

Don't have a cooler, planned on using the cooler I had in my dell but I can't get the mounting brackets off of the board

I've had a 3820 die on me because it didn't turn off when I forgot the thermal paste when it started to boot Windows.

it is indeed not a flawless system, but it can often still save your PC

it may have, the only way to find out is to test if it still works
