Hello everyone.

I need some opinion about which CPU is better for a Workstation Build.
I am an architect who is trying to build a fast stable and machine for my work.

  AMD RYZEN 7 1700 3.0GHz 8-Core Processor

Intel Core i7-7700K 4.2GHz Quad-Core Processor

More cores will help slot, also piles of RAM. And if you plan on doing some renders of your models for presentation purposes that task loves cores. Your 2 options would be R7 1700 or 5820k I personally would go with the 1700.

What programs will you be using?

Well... I work with many softwares open in the same instance. But!

last time i check them, i read about this kind of infos:

Autocad 2016 (CPU single threat+GPU - here is just to work with line vectors).

still beginner - Revit 2016 (CPU+GPU viewports and complex file)

Rhinoceros 3D. (CPU+Ram+GPU for rotate viewports and many heavy objects)

Vray (CPU for final render).
Thea Render (GPU based+CPU - but final render is mainly CPU)
still beginner - 3D Studio MAX (CPU+GPU - depend on which render plugin are inside)

Photoshop (CPU+RAM+SSD+GPU - for heavy layers on post-pro final production)
Illustrator (CPU+GPU - just working with vectors for final diagrams)
Indesign (CPU+RAM+SSD - for printing and publishing)

The workflow usually as to be 24/7 (for renders) and multitasking for opens multiple softwares. And a very reliable fresh cooling system to not achieve high temps and not to cause thermal throttling.

RYZEN really. Are this new Chip CPU very stable and reliable?
I thought that Intel was more to go when it matters this kind of softwares!! Or this was in the past and things are different today?

new chipset still hasn't matured yet, but it will come soon enough, but yea ryzen is the way to go, more cores for less which you need, the main complaint about ryzen at the moment is the fact that it's not good at gaming, but it's great at multi threaded work loads like CAD, so get it, it's probably the best option for you. and it was intel because intel was the only one that made good CPUs till this month, now AMD has ryzen, it's not always the case as intels platforms are much much dearer for not much benefit compared to zen

OK.
That is a point to consider. But for summary...
All i need is more cores? or a fastest single core?

More cores, it will be night and day any time you render. And if you have a lot of programs open at the same time
