Mac Adware Issue

Hello, 

 

A friend of mine's Mac is experiencing terrible adware issues, and I'm curious as to how I would fix it.

 

Issues:

• Random ads appear upon the screen in any browser he uses [Chrome, Safari, Firefox.] 

• On some occasions, a click anywhere on the screen directs to an ad when a browser is open.

 

Is there any way that I could rid his Mac of this issue without the use of a third-party software? Some fancy Terminal code, perhaps? 

 

I'm somewhat savvy, I just don't know what to do.

"Some fancy Terminal code"..... Have you tried downloading an anti virus for it and doing a scan? Have you tried looking at all installed extensions on safari, chrome, firefox, etc.? Have you updated everything to the latest version?

you can find all executable files using find. I have not tested it as I am on linux and it might be slightly different

Make sure you check the plugins and extensions in the browsers. Also see if you can check default browser settings, maybe something's attached in there. Startup processes/programs is a good place to check too.

A: Proton mail and VPN are the best for email and VPNs respectively. (They're free in a good way)

A: By learning how to de-anonymize everyone else; if you can do that, then you know what to do for yourself.

 

Q: What Linux distro is best for x y z?

A: Lubuntu for things with little processing power, Ubuntu for normal PCs, and if you need to do anything else then it's best if you do the research yourself.

 

Q: Why is my Linux giving me x y z error?

A: Have you not googled it? Are you sure StackOverflow doesn't have an answer? Does the error tell you what's wrong? If the answer is no to all of those, message me.
