Hey I'm looking to build a new gaming computer, but I also want to be able to do some decent content creation. I enjoy some 3D modeling in programs like blender and I want to continue that. I don't really know what processor I want or need though. My current parts list is a gtx 1080ti, intel i7 7700k, g. Skill 2x16gb ram. I also want to put an optical drive(probably gonna get an lg don't know the exact model though. Something that can read and write blu ray). I am going for a 1 terabyte hard drive and a 500gb ssd. I also would like several decent (preferably 2 or so USB 2.0 and 3 or so USB 3.0 and 3.1) USB ports in the motherboard. I also want to be able to expand later on with another graphics card and possibly more ram if needed. So I need a motherboard that can support those expansions. Any suggestions on processor, case, motherboard, and maybe a good high refresh rate monitor that isn't $1000+?

For content creation, you might want to go with the 1700 or 1700X from AMD. As for motherboard, I'm not really sure, haven't done much research on AM4 boards yet. I LOVE my Define S windowed, solid case for a pretty good price. Here is a great monitor with 1440p 144hz and G-sync for $389 https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK/

It seems like Ryzen and Intel are basically the same price/performance right now, so choose whichever you like more.

Wait a few more weeks (or is it days?) for VEGA to release; who knows? A VEGA card might give the 1080ti a run for its money.

Want to know which mobo to get?

Spoiler

Choose whatever you need. Any more, you're wasting your money. Any less, and you don't get the features you need.

Only you know what you need to do with your computer, so nobody's really qualified to answer this question except for you.

this should really be in the new builds and planning section. that aside i would say you need to cleary define how much you want to game and how much you want to content create because you could get a 6800k or a ryzen cpu if you want to get better productivity at the cost of some fps in some games at 1080p.

Find me a modern Intel CPU with 8 cores for less than $350

Anyways, yeah wait for vega and get an R7 1700

Content creation will take advantage of extra cores, and even though the Ryzen 1700 & 1700X have a lower clock speed, the extra cores will help with the demands of the things you plan to use with it.
