External Power for a Asus Rx 460 2Gb?

Hello!

Today I was looking at my GPU, I saw it had the 6-pin connector soldering holes on the top, but there is no 6-pin female connector on it.

So I was wondering Could it be possible to solder a 6-pin female connector to it?

I wanted to do it, but i thought it would be a better idea to ask the Pros about such a topic.

So Should I or shouldn't I do it? I will mostly do because my motherboard doesn't power the GPU enough when I over clock it.

I've got all the necessary tools for it: 6-pin connector Female, Soldering iron, solder, Asus Rx 460 2Gb and a mind.

The power for RX 460 will be supplied from motherboard. You don't need to do anything stupid

Don't oc it then.

You can always OC it and see if it works and is stable. There is no danger in trying it. If you dont get enough power, the OC will probably not be stable.

 

I dont think you CAN even solder a power connector onto the GPU. The card does not have any power lines on the board to deliver that power to the GPU. Completely impossible. If the power draw is really holding you back, you might want to sell this 460 and get one that comes with a 6 pin connector.

I tried on oc-ing it on many types of levels, went up 50 MHz every time. when i got to 1900 MHz on the memory clock  and 1350 MHz on my Core Clock my GPU failed and the drivers crashed and i needed to restart my PC.

 

The Gpu i saw on Amazon was not the exact one, the amazon one didn't have the 6-pin connector soldering holes, mine does have em.
