Hey everyone.

So I built my first computer, about 1 - 1.5 months ago.  The computer is making ticking noises.  Now I'm not sure if it's a fan or something else, like the Hdd, or Sdd (Can an Sdd make a ticking noise, probably not 'eh??).

So, I wanted to go and unplug my fans one by one and see if it got rid of the ticking noise, and then unplug the HDD, and see if that made it disapear.  Now sometimes the noise disappears, and sometimes it's there constantly.  Like for example; I've had the computer on for about 45 minutes, and the ticking started off fast, and then eventually slowed down, and now it has stopped.

Is it possible to unplug the fan on my cpu heatsink for maybe a minute, just to see if it is that fan making the noise, or is that a no fly zone what so ever, another words, will my cpu fry.  I know it's not recomended, but will the heatsink suck enough heat away from the processor for a minute, to make it safe, it would be the last component I would check.

I would like to find out what this noise is, and have it replaced, before it develops into a bigger problem.

BTW I have an I5 6600K with a hyper 212 evo cpu cooler.

Obviously I would shut the computer off before I reached my hand in there to unplug everything, and then turn it back on, and let it boot.

Thanks.

If it's a new build I don't think it's the HDD unless you transfered it from something else. SSD can make a little clicking noise, but that's hardly audible.

Try the fans.

Could you discribe the type of sound you maybe by referring to an object or something. Like a glass tapping the table or 2 pennies tapping eachother. This may help.

It sounds like plastic hitting something.  Just a dull ticking noise.  Like maybe plastic hitting metal.  There's only 4 things in the system that have moving parts.  2 case fans, cpu fan, and HDD.  GPU Cooler isn't running (only runs at 50+ degress c and up), PSU fan has never turned on, because it never gets warm enough.

is it like basballcard in tire spokes for noise and rhythm?

Not exactly.  Like maybe taking something plastic or a card, and tapping it on something lightly.  I wish I could record it, but I'm not sure if it's loud enough for me to get it on any mic I Have,
