Hi everyone,

Tomorrow I have a LAN party with some friends. I need to go with the car. Is it risky to transport my (new) gaming PC? I still have the old box with the foam. Is that ok? Or can I better take my iMac? (I know PCmasterrace :P) The games we're going to play are on both computers avaibable.

Thanks!

P.S. I'm the most concerned about my CPU cooler and GPU.

P.P.S. This is the rest of my build:

CPU: intel core i5-7600K
CPU cooler: Cryorig h7
Motherboard: msi z270 gaming carbon

Taking out the graphics card would be a good idea. The rest should be fine if it's all screwed in.

Moved to General Discussion.

Take out the HDD, and GPU. Those are the two most likely to be damaged from bumping around. Everything else is likely secured fine, I doubt removing the CPU cooler is needed.

Another option is putting (depends on how large your towels and case are, you'll probably need more than I did in my mATX case) one or two very dry towels inside your case and take up all the empty space so there's no room for your GPU and other items to bump around, acting like packing pellets. I did this for 2 flights last summer and it worked pretty well, but I wouldn't suggest it unless you're not able to remove parts.

Personal build >  New-ish AMD main gaming setup

PLEASE QUOTE OR @ ME FOR A RESPONSE xD

I normally just get someone else to drive me so I can put it in my lap. Lol, I don't normally take the GPU out because of that. I'm not sure if that's a smart thing to do but so far everything is doing fine.

But it like everyone else said just take the GPU out and put the pc somewhere secure.

You can take out the graphics card, but in my experience I never did anything to specially secure the build, just tucked it behind the front seats on the floor and voila. Did that with lots of PCs, never had a single issue.

If we're honest the HDD will still bump around in your car anyway so that is not a danger per se, but the graphics card might get the PCIe pins as well as MBO PCIe slot damaged (since they can get really heavy) so that is the real danger. It's not like the GPU on itself can get damaged. Unless you have a build in GPU support beam in the case, then it's pretty much no problem as well.

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.

I've been going to LAN parties for several years by now. I have yet to take a part out of my build for those reasons and my pc was just in the trunk of the car. I also had coolers of 1+kg mounted on my CPU, a tripple slot, tripple fan GPU heatsinks and an HDD. As long as you drive carefully, don't brake too suddenly, take speedbumps with caution and don't race around corners your pc should be fine.

Someone once said: "Having a rollercoaster on a PC would be epic"

So threw a rollercoaster on my K'nex PC: Project Dragon Khan- K'nex rollercoaster PC build
