So I posted a thread a while back about a build that can handle a security system and Photoshop and it worked out pretty well so I figured I would go for it again.

Budget & Location

- I'm from Canada, and would like to spend roughly $1000 - $1200.

Aim

- The computer would be used for some League and editing software like Photoshop, Illustrator, and Premier.

Monitors

- 2 monitors preferably 22 inches and I'll be getting a 3rd monitor later on (would like to have this included in the build cost).

Peripherals

- None needed.

Why are you upgrading?

- Been using a laptop from 2011 for work and gaming and it's pretty much dead now.

Notes

- Not sure which motherboard to get, thinking of a B250 but not sure which one would best suit my needs.

- As far as a video card is concerned I would like to stay with NVidia.

- Still need to pick a PSU and case too.

I wouldn't exactly suggest an i5 at this time with Ryzen on the way, I'd probably say it's better just to save up for an R7 1700, though just get 16gbs of fast RAM now so it doesn't need replacing later

a G4560 should be more than enough for what you want to do

the monitors here have hdmi/dvi and VESA

also totally gotta step you up to dota

As far as the GPU goes you simply can't beat the RX 470 on performance per dollar

That's what saving for Ryzen is for

the most reasonable i5 is only going to be about 50% faster in multi-threaded applications for triple the price at $260 CAD, really not worth the money there, where as at 400 CAD you get a Ryzen R7 with 8 cores/16 threads for all the workstation stuff, at that point it's 4 times the price for roughly 4 times the performance

only 50% faster?

i highly doubt hes doing any heavy lifting with his future PC.

upgrading from a laptop to a desktop i5 is going to be huge for him anyways.
asking him to spend double on a ryzen cpu and mobo doesnt seem look a good fit.

i understand future-proofing is a thing but unless OP should clarify my first question and also what his workflow looks like

I mean.. editing on a G4560 isn't impossible. When using photoshop on my i3-6100 my biggest fallback was RAM and the fact that I have it on my HDD and not SSD.

I rendered videos just fine on my i3-6100 also.

Should be something like that, because it's 2c/4t vs 4c/4t at around the same clock speeds, possibly a bit higher due to a few lacking instruction sets on the pentium

it won't be the best for like premier, depends how much he does that, it all just comes down to the time spent rendering

but to me it makes sense just to put the money towards the ryzen chip, since it should end up far faster than the money spent on the i5.

Waiting for a Ryzen has crossed my mind, it just really depends on how soon I need this computer.

Photoshop and Illustrator are mainly for web design work which happens daily, Premier not so much since I'm just editing my volleyball matches on a weekly basis. The biggest thing is I usually have a TV show running in the background while playing League and having a ton of Photoshop and Illustrator files and my laptop goes to shit when I do that for too long lol

This machine will not win any glory prices in terms of looks, but the 1050ti should be enough for games and some other stuff at 1080p and the ryzen 7 1700 should give you way better performance in ps than the i5 (though i highly suggest to wait till benchmarks ;) )

Pros:

+G4560 and RX470 is the value sweetspot for gaming.

+75hz Freesync monitor + AMD GPU

+SSD for editing

+good power supply

Netural:

*16GB RAM for editiing might not be enough

*2tb of storage for games and footage might not be enough

Cons:

-Monitors are expensive, they could probably be cut down if you excluded the freesync+75hz or 22" size

-G4560 might not be enough for editing

Ditching the ssd is a good point, as he will need to get monitors, missed that bit :D and the 1050ti is still a capable card for most titles. I rather get the strong cpu now and upgrade the gpu down the road than spending now much on the gpu and have to deal with a weak cpu. And probably one good monitor atm is better that 2 really cheap ones.
