Core 2 Duo

What's the most bang-for-the-buck Core 2 Duo CPU currently? I know most will probably say the Q6600, but is there anything better than that?

An X5450 with the 771 to 775 mod.

How do you mod a socket? Because I'd much rather prefer a Xeon over a Core 2 Duo. The LGA775 socket is exactly what I am looking for.

Cut the tabs on the side of the socket, apply a small sticker to the Xeon, put Xeon in socket and mod the BIOS if the motherboard doesn't already support it. Stay away from 680i motherboards, they hate 45nm quad cores. There're plenty of guides on the internet for a more detailed explanation.

I have the q8300 (quad core) picked it up on ebay for $15. Cant compete with my 4690k@4.8 but it still runs decent with a 750ti

$150 and I am not factoring in things like the monitor and GPU. I want to spend like $50 on a motherboard and CPU.
