Hey guys,

after countless hours of google and trying to figure it out myself i'm completely out of ideas.

My Problem ist that every game that I play feels very laggy and stuttery even though the FPS are fine.

This is very hard to discribe but the game feels absolutely fluent until i start moving the camera and everything starts feeling very laggy.

My setup:

Intel Core i4790K @ 4.00Ghz

2x8GB DDR3

Maximus VII Hero

AMD Sapphire R9 290X Tri-X

256GB SSD

1TB HDD

Monitor:  AOC G2460PF  1080p@144Hz FreeSync

Windows 10

I triple checked everything:

- Windows updates

- Driver updates/settings

- Monitor settings

- In-game settings

- benchmarked/stress tested CPU and GPU (normal scores)

- setting monitor to 60Hz, turning FreeSync off, trying V-Sync, etc.

I even removed the overclock on my CPU that i was using for years now.

The games I noticed it so far:

- WoW (50-120 fps depending on where i am, but that's normal)

- Overwatch(110-140 fps)

- Factorio(constant 60 fps)

- Dota2 (90-110 fps)

Even when i get to the maximum FPS in each game respectively it still feels very exhausting to me.

Side note: This is only happening after i completely reinstalled Windows! I had no issues before that (im using the same drivers that i used before)

And additionally videos/streams (like YouTube or Twitch) are completely lagging/freezing while I'm in a loading screen in WoW.

So i kind of though it might have something to do with my CPU but everything appears to be fine :/

(I monitored CPU and GPU during gaming but everything looks normal: 100% GPU depending on game with temps ~80°C and CPU load around 20%)

Best regards,

NoNamePaul

Are you sure its a graphics issue and not a networking issue? Because most of the games you listed are network based, and can lag.

I'm absolutely sure its not a networking issue. The same stuttering occurs in singleplayer the same way as in multiplayer. And it doesnt feel like latency/networking issue aswell. I can play Overwatch and everything fine.

You have two monitors one 60Hz and one 144Hz?

If so.... there is nothing you can do about it on Windows 10 except playing in FullScreen mode.

I actually have 4 monitors:

2 1920x1080 and 2 1650x1050 (older ones). One of the 1080 has 144Hz the rest 60Hz (spec wise and in the settings aswell). I tried running fullscreen/windowed/windowed fullscreen if it was available.

And as i said. I have the exact same setup as before. The problems only now occur after a fresh Windows installation.

Edit: I even tried unplugging the other monitors but it didnt make any difference

Before you re-installed Windows, did you have to make any setting changes to get it to work fine before?

No. The last change to my setup were the monitors. But already weeks ago and i didnt change anything since then, and i didnt change any settings back then (except refresh rates, turning off V-Sync, etc. so the monitor works as intended)

That's it. You maybe haven't noticed the issue before as the stuttering occurs ONLY if there is any kind of animation happening on the other 60Hz monitor.

I highly recommend you to read trough this. I have the same issue BTW.

Did you download latest drivers off of the gpus manufacturers website?

Yes.

Also If you try one of your old monitors in place of the AOC one that can tell you whether or not that's a Monitor issue.

I tried all 4 monitors (separately and together if every mointor being the main one).

The best I can think of past that is either something happened when installing drivers, try reinstalling those. Or the monitor isn't doing something right. Or the possible chance that something is taking up some background vram. Like an App or something.

I checked all monitor settings (resetting them and everything). I thought the same but my frames are absolutely perfect (same as they were before) and when playing factorio for example the VRAM isn't even at max, neither is GPU usage. But the game still feels laggy.

when you reinstalled windows, was it upgrading it from an older version to new? why did you reinstall windows?

I originally upgrade from Windows 7 when it was free. But since then i already did a clean install to get rid of all the junk that slowly grew on my PC. And now i did a clean install again because i got a lot of stuff clumping up my PC (again) and i tried to fix some very weird issues i had with the Dota2-Workshop-Tools.

I read through it but with expected results: The problem is still there even when the game is the only thing running on the PC (except some background Windows/Driver stuff) and even when i unplug every monitor but one.

The olnly thing i noted is a very weird behavior on testufo.com Im constantly getting SYNC FAILUREs and the fps keep jumping from 60 to 141 and down again all the time (I tried turning off FreeSync but it still acts very weird)

I already knew that when i was watching twitch on my second monitor that my game stutters a little but now it's all the time.

Ok.

So for some reason it know works when i unplug 2 of my monitors (the 1050 ones) (I tried that MULTIPLE times before -.-)

I just dont know...

I'm just glad that i can play good now. Guess i have to stick to 2 monitors until i have the time and will to try figuring out a solution again.

Thanks anyway for the input :)
