Looking for rackmount cases

Hi,

I am looking for rackmount server cases. I am currently looking at norco's 3U cases. The requirement for the case would be to have 10+ hotswap SATA drive bays and 2u and bigger. It would also be best if the backplane would be easy to use.

I am going to put a ATX Server mobo, a xeon, some ECC ram, a HBA (if needed), unraid and probably a low profile CPU cooler if the case needs it. This is not finalized so I am still figuring out the parts.

meh why not just get that server, cheaper and faster.

He didn't even give planned specs, so how would you know if it is faster? That Dell, even with dual CPUs has about as much power as a modern i3, while using a ton of power and being loud as hell... It is cheap though, no argument there.

 

 

OP, you could always get a normal rackmount chassis and drop in a couple of hot swap cages like the Norco SS-500 as long as they fit. I put one in a RPC-450, and it gives me the option to add more cages at a later date when I want more drives. A note on the Norco, if you add the rail kit it doesn't fit some racks... its hit or miss if it will happen to you, but their QA seems to have some major issues as I've seen a couple of the same model number cases have up to 3/8" variances in widths. I didn't want to deal with returning mine and finding something else so I ended up having to notch my rack out to fit the rails.

yeah and for 5$ a cpu as long as the mobo supports it you can get 2.4ghz quad cores.

Only player in the market that I would touch is supermicro.  Most of the others that you can DIY are not the best thought our designs.  If it does not need to be rackmount, A fractal Node 804 is nice mATX option.
