So currently i have a EVGA GTX 970 SSC and would like to know if it is worth upgrading to something like a 1060 6G or maybe a 1070. I really only do 1080p 60hz gaming, but may give 144HZ TN Panels another shot or may think about a 1440p 144HZ TN.

Why no 480? simple.... because i love nvidia and geforce experience. Although i can wait for VEGA if the 970 would still suffice for 1080p gaming.

Storage: Samsung 850 evo 250gb SSD, Kingston 120gb v300 SSD, Western Digital 1TB green drive.

970 to 1060 is no upgrade

970 to 1070, it's a substantial upgrade - I did it:

Wait another week, Hardware Unboxed will revisit the GTX 970 (subscribe if you want or check their channel in a week)

970 won't last that long with 1080p ultra settings gaming.

OP should wait for the alleged Pascal refresh instead. Or Vega.

Isn't volta sup[posed to be launched in 2018? i do see leaks of it apparently being launched early to compete with VEGA i guess.

Why does one need ultra any ways? lower shadows and use it until the update is actually meaningful on Volta [:

People's tastes are different. Some will only be happy with everything maxed out, or as high as possible given their card's capabilities.

Personally I'm also waiting for Volta too, but I also have a beefier GPU than the 970 so I can stomach the wait.

Maybe by then, current G-Sync monitors will have come down even more in price.

I'm counting on that fact, as I want to purchase an ultrawide 3840x1600 or 3440x1440 monitor when I move to Volta.
