Resizing partition

Go to solution Solved by CJPowell27,

I forgot to update this thread, but I finally just gave in and reinstalled windows and then put linux alongside it.  Was much easier and was less risky.

Hey guys, I'm trying to install windows 10 alongside my current Ubuntu setup, but when I try to shrink my /dev/sda2 partition where all my free space is, it does not allow me to.

I simply want to have 250 Gb for windows and the rest for ubuntu, but it isn't letting me resize the partition.  I have done some research and it seems the common answer is that

it is due to encryption, however nobody says how to get past this.  Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance

Um... Unencrypt the drive....

if the drive is encrypted a program has no way of knowing how the data is represented, and thus cannot resize partitions without formatting the drive.

(unless you are running this from an operating system which has already unlocked the drive)

Disclaimer: The results of this will vary. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Please backup all of your data before attempting this. If you don't feel like trying to save your linux partition, wipe the drive, install windows then install linux.

Unencrypt your drive, use GParted to create a NTFS partition. (BACK UP ALL OF YOUR DATA!) Then boot from windows installer, but before installing repair the boot manager (Replace GRUB with windows boot loader.) Then install windows. Then attempt to reinstall GRUB Bootloader.

Errors you may run into to: MGR Boot Loader issue (Something like that) --> (Fix) To fix this issue, make sure you replaced GRUB with windows boot manager. If that didn't work, you may need to wipe the drive and install windows first.
