Hello i currently have a i5 4590 sitting around without a motherboard and i was about to buy a new one when i figured i could ditch the i5 alltogether and buy a i7 3960x and overclock it. I was wondering if it is a good idea as a motherboard for the i5 is 60 bucks and one for the i7. With the processor is more around the 400 mark

Wait.

for.

Ryzen.

otherwise assuming the board is in working condition and isn't low end, it ain't too bad for $60

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

It's just too important not to post lol, especially if by next month you can get an 8c/16t Ryzen chip for around $300

@Streetguru but i already own the i5 and i only need the i5

Then why are you considering the i7 extreme?

Just get that motherboard, hope it works

and then move onto Ryzen later in the year or something if it turns out to be decent and pretty good for the money
