I need a $200-$300 Facebook machine for  friend of mine. I was wondering what you all would recommend. He won't be doing anything more intense than web browsing.

My Build: i7-4790K, 212 Evo, Asus Maximus VI Extreme, Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB DDR3-1600, Intel 730 240GB SSD, WD Blue 1TB, EVGA GTX 980Ti ACX 2.0, NZXT H440 Blue/Black, EVGA 650W 80+Gold.

Most of the time, it's not the computer, it's the person using it.

For 300$ you can basically configure an Intel nuc with Pentium N3700, 8GBs of RAM and a 128GB SSD. Just did this for a friend and it works like a charm. built in wifi too, and it's very small.

My Main Build: NZXT S340 - NZXT Kraken X31 - Crucial MX100 256GB - i5 4460 - Gigabyte Z97P D3 - Kingston HyperX Red 8GB - MSI Nvidia GTX 780 3GB - Corsair LL & HD RGB Fans, Corsair Lighting Node Pro.

They just want a laptop then, for what they want that will be much cheaper than building a PC and buying all the peripherals. Something like this, you can probably get something cheaper as well. https://www.amazon.com/HP-Stream-11-y010nr-Celeron-Personal/dp/B01JLCKP48/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1487441650&sr=8-2&keywords=HP+streambook

Chromebook would be a good idea

Bow down to me humans.

I can't help if you don't quote me. How am I supposed to know if you need my premium support? Now starting at £399.99 a year.

Also, be a sport and mark the correct answer as the correct answer. It will help pour souls in the future when they are stuck and need guidance.

I would either buy an old PC off of craigslist, or use a laptop/PC you have laying around. Then, open it up and clean it out. Then, you can install software like "CloudReady" which is a desktop/laptop version ChromeOS. This will make your computer like a Chromebook, with fast boot up times, and it would be perfect for Facebook. CloudReady is free and you can download the EXE or a disk image here:

I'm a blogger, student, and developer. I love re-purposing old hardware such as PCs, routers, and phones.

I second the Chromebook idea. However, you can build a tower for around $250.

Did the $300 budget include a monitor and everything? Do they want a tower, or something small and compact?

There's many ways to go about what you've asked.

It works for what they need, someone else mentioned a Chromebook which is a better shout. I think a desktop is a waste of time if it is only going to be used for the internet, the mobility of a laptop will likely be useful at some point.

I've always found Celerons to feel noticeably sluggish compared to Pentiums, and HP is a horrible company.

I'd recommend virtually anything else :P
