PCIe 2.0 slot for a PCIe 3.0 gfx card ?

Hello
I have an old Asus P6T motherboard with a GTX 650ti and would like to upgrade to a RX480 and get a new monitor at 144hz.
Would the PCIe 2.0 slot be sufficient for the newest video cards ?

I'm still running a i7-920 in there, with 12gb ram and 2 SSDs.

you'll be fine as long as it's 16x Even my 980ti is perfectly fine in a 2.0

It's backwards compatible so yes it will work.

yeah man the PCIe 3.0 x16 ceiling is still ludicrously high.

 

Does anyone know what percentage of the PCIe 3.0 x16 Link's bandwidth is actually used by something like a Titan XP ??  I'm gonna take a stab and say like 5-10%

 

Basically linus had to RAID U.2 drives through a PCIe card to come close to the ceiling, and he was still a few GB/s short of that glorious 16GB/s theoretical throughput of the bus.

 

I have wondered for a long time precisely how much of the bandwidth a Titan uses on average so if anyone knows please let us know.

thanks for the good news guys.
I'm looking at any Radeon that supports Freesync and 2560x1440. i'd like to pair it with a Acer XG270HU 27" 1ms 144HZ WQHD HDMI DisplayPort Adaptive-Sync (Free Sync) Widescreen LED Backlight LCD Monitor

 

Any advice on this ?
Also, it seems my CPU i too old for some newer games like Dishonored 2, how much does it affect the game compared to a brand new GPU ?
