so today i got a price notification from PCpartpicker saying that the msi gd-65 i was going to put into my new build went on sale to $120, so naturally i ordered it up from newegg and confirmed the order, thinking i was getting a super deal.  when the confirm email came i noticed that i had accidentally been sent to the gd-45 page and had purchased that instead.  my question is should i return it and get the 65 or just deal with the 45?

my build:

650 watt bronze psu

12 gb ram 1333

4770k

msi gd45 or gd 65

random disk reader/burner by LG

r9 280x (specific model TBD)

fractal r4 with window

2x 1TB raid 1 HDDs

1x 64 GB boot ssd

1x 128 program storage ssd

i dont plan on doing any OC yet, although i think that is something i want to do in the next year or so. and there are only 6 sata  ports on the 45 as opposed to the 8 that are on the 65, im not sure what else i would throw into it that needs a sata port.  however on my last build i never thought i would do pc gaming, let alone RAID.

what would you do to complete this build?

Sbedirt is wrong. Both the GD45 and GD65 will work for your CPU. The GD65 has a couple more features than the 45 but the GD45 is still a amazing board.

My Current Build:

Intel i5 3570K @ 4.4GHz 1.11V, Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO, Asrock Z77 Extreme4, Corsair Vengeance 8GB 1600MHz, Samsung 840 EVO 250GB, Asus GTX 760 DCII Overclocked, Corsair CX600M

If you want to keep the same cpu then go with the gd65 as the gd45 is socket 2011 and will not fit your current cpu.

(Your current cpu is socket 1150)

im well aware that my cpu is socket 1150. im not 100% sure by what you mean that the gd45 is 2011 though.  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130693 is most definitely an 1150 socket

actually i should have been more clear. i got the gaming version, i do believe that msi makes a gd45 on the 2011 socket but its not labeled "gaming"

That's more clear now :P

If you have the gaming version (A.K.A the sexy version!) then it is for sure 1150 and it will work fine with your 4770K :)

lol yes i have the sexy one. im 100% sure it works with my processor.  im just wondering if its worth the time and hassle to return it and drop in a pci e to sata adapter later if i need it, as well as just accept especially poor overclocking if i ever decide to do that.

Sorry thought you were originally talking about the gd45.  And as you said the g45 gaming is 1150.

My mistake.
