Added a new ssd, can't boot off of it.

dwang040

So, I just installed a ssd. And here's what I did.

1. Installed the SSD into the pc (sata and power)

2. boot off the hard drive

3. Cloned c drive and pasted it onto the ssd

4. Shutdown.

5. reboot into bios.

However, when i go to boot options, The only option listed is my hdd. When i go to connected sata ports, my ssd is there, and i have the option to force boot off of ssd, but again, I can't save the ssd as the main boot.

Another thing I noticed when i boot back into the system with my harddrive. My ssd is now labeled as drive b. And i have this third drive labeled as System reserve aka drive a. Where did this drive come from? how can i set it up so the ssd becomes my main boot and drive c, where as the hdd becomes drive d?

thanks.

Is the drive formatted to NTFS?

EDIT: Actually not sure what is going on here, when I installed my SSD I more or less plugged it in and was ready.

I don't want to since If i can't boot off the ssd (since it's not even shown as a bootable drive in the bios) I need to keep the hdd as a backup.

correct. In my bios, under boot priorities, It doesn't even list the ssd as a drive. However, when i got to sata connetions, my ssd is listed as conneted and working. Also, I am able to force boot off of my ssd. I just can't save it as my default boot drive.

wow. that actually worked. The bios changed the boot drive to the ssd, The ssd, is now local disk c, drive a, aka the system reserve is gone. I'm assuming after formating (if all my apps work and no change is needed), System Reserve D will disappear and my hdd will become local drive d. Thanks!

i figured it was probobly detecting two C drives for some reason (ssd and hard drive) and thats what the issue was
