Which wireless controller for SteamOS/Linux

Hi,

I'm looking for a new controller for my Linux laptop, and I can't seem to find any information on the Steam website. Valve is so vague about it, and it seems like the Steam controller is the only controller that is compatible!

I currently have a original Xbox One controller, but it doesn't work on my Linux installation, even with the cable. I've read that it should be supported if I upgrade it. For now, it seems like the wired 360 controller is the way to go, unless I go for a Logitech one, but I don't like these.

So I'd like to know if there's a Bluetooth wireless controller that is officially supported by SteamOS, and one that would possibly be compatible with Android devices.

Well, the Steam Machine uses SteamOS, which is a modified version of Linux

That means, provided you get a correct version of Linux / Linux Add On, it should in theory work, but no gaurantees

The steam controller, when on sale. While not the best, it does offer a great degree of flexibility despite its learning curve

I just don't like Windows. In the worst case I'll just get a new 360 controller since they are getting cheaper now and are 100% compatible.

Already had those...  But my couch is too long from the htpc so I needed wireless. The Steamos community is surprisingly small. Would be easier to find a cookie cutter guide o  how to get it working on Ubuntu. :)

all i know that works is the xbox and steam controller works but ps4 controller and Nvidia sheild controller requires button remapping. have a look at the archwiki section on controllers https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Gamepad#Specific_devices

Thanks for the link. The Shield controller isn't mentioned though, which makes sense because it doesn't use Bluetooth but WiFi. The best solution seems to be 360 controller (wired or wireless).

youre not getting a license, youre just paying to bypass activation. Why pay for that? Either get the thing youre suppose to get or break copyright law, but dont hand over money just to bypass copyright protections! the scam is people dont know what they are paying for. If someone approaches you to buy a stolen bicycle do you pay for the bicycle or do you take it for a test ride and ride off with it? are they going to call the police and say someone stole my stolen bicycle? only chumps give money to criminals
