Replacing a type B connector with something else

Hi guys, I'm looking to mod my Blue Snowball mic a little further (already painted the plastics matt black), but swapping out the type B connector - dubbed "the printer cable".

 

Its infuriating, it doesn't stay in properly no matter what i do (re bending the securing pins, even hot glueing the cable in place. So, i want to swap it.

I wonder if i just try splitting apart a micro usb connector and just attaching the wires to the motherboard to test the concept? If it works, what next?

Do you just want to get rid of the connector or do you want to replace it for another connector? As for your question, well if it works congrats! Celebrate I guess?

I would recommend you to buy something like this

That way you can easily break out the USB bus from the connector ans simply match the data and power lines to the board on your mic. As for how to attach it securely to the enclosure, you need to get creative.

Right I forgot that part, sorry. Search for "micro usb breakout" or "mini usb breakout" depending on what connector you want. I normally get them from the Chinese stores (eBay, Banggood, etc).

A friend of mine broke the USB port and just direct soldered the cable to the board. That's what I'll do I feel mine starts giving me issues.
