Laptop for light gaming for a friend

cc143

A friend has decided after 2 years of just passing by with a sub £250 acer that it cannot meet their computing needs.

These include university work, so some mobility and ~2-3hrs of plug independence are appreciated, as well as light gaming. The most intensive title I can think of them playing is Overwatch, where high settings, FHD at 60fps is the goal. They may play some older AAA titles, but the requirements will be much lower there depending on the title.

The absolute maximum of a budget is £650, more is impossible. The best candidate to date is unfortunately this hp pavillion

Which I personally think is not that great, however, that's the only option with 950m I could find in that range.

This is another option, but has an inferior cpu and I believe gpu (not sure if the 940mx outperforms the 950m), but has a FHD screen and ssd).

Is there anything else in that range you guys can think of?

Is a desktop-chromebook configuration not possible here? With a 500 dollar PC and a 150 ish dollar chromebook, you could accomplish the same thing.

No, I dont think that's something we could manage to pull off here, the value of peripherals alone would bring the pc budget down to 400, even if you got everything used, add another £30 for an OS and you are pretty much left with a pc that can barely manage to game and is crap in any sort of multitasking.

Regardless, I don't think that's a desireable option either, a desktop is a far more permanent, fixed solution.

@Thinkfreely

+£500 delivery to the UK, +if something looks too good to be true it probably is, don't expect a ~£2000 laptop to drop to a quarter of the price with nothing fishy going on, its a 3rd party seller.
