Hi guys,

I was thinking of making a window for my PC but I don't know it I should cut the current side panel, with the risk that I will screw it up, or should I just make a side panel for the computer out of plexy glass stuff. I could spay the edges of the plastic so it matches the case.

I was thinking of getting this: http://www.lowes.com/pd_11230-1638-11G0830A_4294713161__?productId=3978817&Ns=p_product_qty_sales_dollar|1&pl=1&currentURL=%3FNs%3Dp_product_qty_sales_dollar%7C1&facetInfo=

From my own experience, cutting a hole in your case is a pain unless you have  the right tools ( I didin´t have the right tools)

Making your own window is pretty simple mate, All you need is a drill/dremmel and a Jigsaw. If you have good enough cutting disks even a dremmel can do the entire job. Clean the edge up with a file, repaint and your good to go :) you never know until you try.

Plus making a whole side panel from plexi is more of a task then cutting a window out of the existing side panel too

But if I screw the panel up...

Never know until you try. What case is it? Most companies can send replacements out if you need.

Watch a few videos from guys like MonsterMawd (MNPC Tech) on youtube, they have guides on modding online that show you how do do it and then you can make a decision based on that

thx

FrozenCPU has window kits that you may be interested in. http://www.frozencpu.com/cat/l1/g42/Window_Kits.html

Personally I just cut my side panel and used a sheet of spare plexi I had left over (sourced from my local Rona, any thickness is suitable so long as it doesn't interfere with the internals). It's really simple, but as someone already mentioned you really do need the right tools. A dremmel or similar rotary tool is recommended, but you can also go the jigsaw / sander route (dremmel method reduces the number of tools required and allows you to just swap bits). A power drill is optional if you want an easy way to start a cut or have round corners, and when you're done just grind down the rough edges and paint or use u-channel moulding. Attach the plexi via 3M double sided tape or nuts and bolts, up to you.

If you measure everything and lay out a template yourself, the chances of you messing up are slim (unless you're not confident doing it yourself). Depending on your case, you may be able to order a spare side panel in case you do mess up (ex. Cooler master has spare panels available through their store). Check around to other retailers if you can't find any.
