For a little while now I have been planning a first gaming pc. After doing many revisions and learning new things, I feel confident about this build. However as i'm just a noobie and looking for some feedback, I came to these forums to ask if this is a good gaming pc. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/QR8Ljc

I'm on a budget and don't plan to go above $700. I also have two more questions. Are these parts compatible with each other? Also, will I be safe overclocking my cpu to 3.8 GHz and overclocking my gpu?

Any feedback is appreciated! Thank you very much! :D

I'm sorry but can you be a little more specific? If it's not good then I would like to know specifically why. I don't know what's wrong if your just telling me "hell no".

Yes, athlon is really old and offer no future upgrade. Overclocking can do but still you are overclocking a slow chip. There are cheaper PSU out there for the money too. Also reference design (like the GPU you have) are usually loud. They tend to be avoided too, look at my build above

Sorry to burst your bubble... that is an extremely bad build. Athlon is very trash [old, slow, not upgradeable], reference AMD cards are terribly loud and hot, and that PSU isn't great value**.

Went Skylake b/c H110 is very cheap.

The Athlon X4 845 cpu was only released about a year ago, it can't be that old can it? In terms of the GPU, according to what I read it's supposed to be pretty silent especially Sapphire ones.

I looked at your build as it is slightly cheaper there's some problems I have with it. Won't the cpu be bad at handling multiple processes especially in gaming because it has only 2 cores? With only 1 8gb memory It will lack dual channel support then meaning I will lose framerate in games? After doing some quick research, I see that the case you recommended is a piece of crap and has horrible cable management.

Dual channel and single channel has no difference in performance

It's not about cores. FX 8350 has 8 cores yet they can't compete with 4 cores i5 or i7. Each core works really slow on Athlon

It's not about what manufacture make them, reference with similar design are hot and loud like other pointed out too

Yeah the PSU is a bit expensive but with that one(since it's not even semi-modular) it will make cable management more of a hassle and could be not compatible with my build. Sorry, as this will be my first build and I haven't built a pc before, i'm worried about cable management and compatibility.

hmm... ok. I'm not worried about what manufacture made them, I'm just worried about performance. What is a good budget cpu that is overclockable?

honestly you don't have to always overclock to gain performance when your performance is already high

i5 6600k so far or some K SKU haswell 4th gen like i5 4690k. though you can look at FX lineup which is old as well.

Yeah I've heard about the AMD ryzen cpus. But, I've seen that they are a couple hundred dollars or more. Or maybe that was a specific ryzen cpu I was looking at? I don't know

The Athlon architecture is roughly 35% slower than current Skylake arch.  That means at the same clockspeed, the Intel is much faster.  The i3 can run up to four threads for many tasks.

Dual channel RAM does increase performance because of the bandwidth throughput.  Believe it or not, 4GB sticks are worse than 8GB sticks due to interleaving.  8GB sticks can process twice as much data in the same time frame in certain tasks, but this does not affect performance all that much (especially in gaming).

It is a box to hold your parts... with your budget I would be happy just to squeeze one in.  The Corsair 200R is not some premium case.  A $25 dollar case will do the same job.

Spend $25 more and you have a decent quad core with a RX 480 (8GB), or stay in budget with a 4GB RX 480:

a good budget cpu generally are locked. if you want a good budget cpu that is overclockable and will be futureproof i would wait and see what amd's new line of cpu has to offer because all of them are supposed to be overclockable.

you were probably looking at the 8 cores. they will have quad cores for less. also when they come out prices of other cpus will likely go down also so there's no reason to not wait. they come out early march.

also keep in mind that the new cpus will have better performance per clock than the athlon so even if the quad core has a lower clock speed than the athlon it will perform better especially if you can overclock it well. just wait for benchmarks and see how its performs.
