Program that completely erases data on a HDD

For Windows, Western Digital's Data Lifeguard Diagnostic has the option to "write zeros" to a drive, which wipes all the data (replaces it with an empty drive).

 

It requires you to have a WD or HGST drive though.

 

If you don't have one such drive, CCleaner has a drive wiper tool that does the same thing. Choose only one pass, it's really enough.

DBAN is awesome, but of course it's a bit more hassle.

 

I like to keep it on a thumbdrive at all times

got my thumb drive with mint and DBAN sitting on my desk. :) 

also forgot I also now got freenas on a flash drive without a case, just the pcb
