So I just installed windows 10 on my mom's first gen dual core i5 laptop because I bought an SSD for cheap at work.

Her old hdd was pretty much toast, I backed up whatever data was left from it and then proceeded to install windows 10.

But I ran into a problem when activating:

You can barely make out Windows 7 Pro on the key...

So I got on a live chat, told them about the illegible key, and they remoted in (using logmein, lol) and tried everything to extract the key from the bios or somewhere, but came up with nothing. The tried magicaljellybean keyfinder and belarc advisor, which instead of opening the outputted log with the default edge browser, the chose to open in chrome instead, lololol

So after all this, I had a brilliant idea: Take the above picture, email it to myself on my own laptop, put it in a flash drive, and plug it into her laptop, and open it. So I did.

Discussing the old failed HDD...

And after talking it over at microsoft...

And we got it activated!

Awesome!!

Service reps aren't all bad :)

Not fucking bad Microsoft.

They're actually pretty nice over here in AU the 3 times I've dealt with them. They're good for just small things like reactivations, getting OEM versions of Windows, etc.

idk

Nice :).

Sounds like their customer support has improved since I last used it.
