Low GPU usage + FPS

Ive been trying to figure out why my graphics card cannot reach above 80% usage. It also has really bad spots where it drops to 20% and my fps goes into the dumpster. Main game is Rust and it is worst on that game.

i5 6600k

Gtx 1070

Z170A M5 MoBo

No overclocks

Every driver in this PC is updated.

Maybe rust has poor optimization, or perhaps your 6600k bottlenecking? I don't know how CPU-heavy this title is. Maybe overclocking it would help.

Im 99.99% sure my i5 6600k is not bottlenecking but I could try a slight overclock so see if that works.

A cool 55-60 c on GPU and cpu is around 40 c

Everything is the latest driver, 0 overclocking in this system, only in Rust.

Try setting power management mode to prefer optimal performance  instead of adaptive.  You can find it under 3d settings in the nvidia control pannel.

I have it set to High Performance, should that be it?

only is rust so that says that rust is not optimized for your setup. whats settings do you use ? have you tried turning down settings?

Yes but im trying to make the game look good aswell, haha I want frames and quality. I could try to put it to medium settings.

It is sad because I see some of these benchmark videos with the same setup as mine and they are getting like 80-101 frames

I have a 1060 in my rig and in some games (minecraft, southpark ) the clockspeed goes from 2150mhz to ~1200 and framerates drop to 10-25.

That is exactly what is happening to me

Just turn down alot of the settings?

seeing their cpu recommendations on minimum and recommended specs are "2GHz" and "3GHz" i think it's fair to say the devs arent competent enough to properly code multicore optimization.

 

does your cpu usage happen to float around the 25 or 50% mark pretty consistently?

southpark stick of truth runs on a 10 watt quadcore celeron with iGPU, that sounds like something else going on there

 

and minecraft, without any eyecandy mods (no, texture packs dont count) you may as well be running a 750Ti as a GTX1060 and have the same results.

@ medium 70-75

@ high  80-90

 

@ med gpu freq sits at 1200 mhz @ high it sits at 2150 mhz

but gtav is unrelated to rust, minecraft, or stick of truth, and that's defenately something thats not supposed to happen on a 1060
