So a while back my steam app decided to not recognize any of my downloaded steam games and wanted me to reinstall them even though they were already installed. I uninstalled my steam and reinstalled it and redownloaded my games and these were fine. but just a few minutes ago a game I played less than 4 hours ago suddenly decided to not be recognized by steam and is wanting me to redownload it despite me already redownloading it. what is going on and how do I fix it?

sounds like either your hard drive is going serious potato, or your steam client is being serious derp.

try reinstalling steam, that's the most likely culprit here.

I've uninstalled it and reinstalled once so far and it worked for a few months but the problem is starting to happen again. last time the problem happened to every game simultaneously, this time only one game so far.

kinda sounds like your hard drive is doing weird things, what's the smart readout on that thing?

(you can check with crystaldiskinfo)

Which one specifically do I download,  simple and update, full, or ultimate?

i just got the standard edition, in a portable zip because i'm that kind of person.

or in case the stupid amount of download buttons confuses you as much as the average person, this one.

(page full of ads, should start the download after a few seconds automagically)

Downloaded and running it, what do you want me to tell you? It says health status good for all my drives.

what it says about the drive your games and steam are installed on.

specificly read error rate, and reallocated sectors count are the interesting ones, their "raw values" should be zero.

(or in case of SSDs, reallocated block count)

well.. the good thing is that your hard drive isnt broken, the bad news is that that means this isnt your answer :P

Oh so that's good, I saw the 200 and I was like shit...

haha, so is the best way to figure this out at this point to contact steam's terrible support? Or would it be easier to continue to find help on LTT forums?

i'd suggest to -if you have the patience to do so- remove all your games, uninstall steam, and remove all files related to steam, before reinstalling.
