Loud D5 Pumps.

Same as a fan running them at full speed are going to be very noisy, most run the pumps basically at idle. Personally I run my all the way down at idle the slowest it will go the only difference is a few degrees of cooling as long as your loop is not super restrictive.

I have always been told that D5 pumps are supposed to be quieter than DDC.  So when I built the loops in my new system I decided to go D5.

However the problem is that the pumps are making a terrible whine.  We are talking headache inducing harpy level noise here.   I have to run then at or under 35% to get them to quiet down.

At 100% they are just loud, at 50% they are not as bad but the pitch is higher and in many ways worse.

The Pumps are EK D5 Revo pumps with Bitspower tops speed is controlled through AI Suite.

Here is a quick video of what is going on.

Any idea on what could be causing this issue?

Tell my tale to those who ask. Tell it truly; the ill deeds along with the good, and let me be judged accordingly.

I have a d5 in one case that I run full speed, however I padded it with foam. I have another in a build that I have attached with screws directly to the pump-top and that one is quite noisy unless it is set to 1 or 2. (it is a vario) So I don't know if you have a loud pump or if it is the mounting that effects the noise.

I have two of the EK-D5 Revo pumps, one is quiet as a church mouse, the other is loud. I have not had time to compare why this is happening but will offer a few suggestions that I to will be looking to do.

Try this with one of your pumps (one at a time):

1. Remove and inspect the pump and top for defects, misalignment or any other abnormalities.

If no defects are found:

2. Test to see if your mount/case is acting as a resonator. Reinstall the pump as mounted before and install a test loop using flex line (Res>Rad>back to Res). If the sound is decreased you may want to devise a decoupling device or system.

NOTE: I just thought about one thing that differs in my two D5 pumps. The quiet one is mounted using flex line (see video below) and the loud one is hard line.

Hit the Funny Button!    :D     The more you press it the funnier you get  :)

like others have said, it largely depends on mounting.  Some of my previous builds with a single d5 struggled with noise, even with basic decoupling.  I'm using 2xD5 at "5" now, mounted with Aquacomputer's Shoggy Sandwich, and they're quieter than the single d5 setup except on the lowest setting.
