The Marvell based card definitely seems like it is the way to go, if it can manage this via SATA:
https://forums.anandtech.com/threads/is-the-onboard-marvell-se9128-really-this-bad.2227791/

I've got several 250GB IDE HDD (2007 Samsung Spinpoint) that I plan on putting in an array as backup recording for a security camera system (high writes, low reads), the problem is that the 2x Jmicron JMB 36X based cards that I have only support 2 IDE HDD, and limit them to only 60MB/sec (aka USB 2.0 speeds) despite using an 80pin cable)-even in a RAID 0 array with a second 250GB HDD, and 2x 200GB SATA 1 HDD (which sustain around 85MB/sec on my LGA775 and 1150 motherboards) so they are useless for more than ODD. Are there any particular cards that would actually allow the HDD to run at their full speed?

LOL

These HDD have had very little use-around 600 hours for the most worn. That and they are perfect for the job with minimal heat output+noise to go with the excellent build quality.

Other than why on earth use IDE disks, there might be something that old on ebay. Another option is to actually use IDE to USB converters and software RAID them, might be lucky enough to even find one that has USB 3 support but I doubt it.

To be honest just buy some used disks, it'll cost less.

The speed limitation is due to a master/slave only having one drive accessed at once on a single cable ultra ata or not. Your easiest bet atm would probably be multiple pci-e cards in raid through an os.

Silent build - You know your pc is too loud when the deaf complain. Windows 98 gaming build, smells like beige

Also a huge concern is when one of the drives dies, how are you going to replace it? Are you going to get another IDE drive off eBay or are you going to spend a few bucks on a SATA drive that will be slowed down by the IDE drives on the same array?

This is why I want to use them (plus I have a lot of them-$19 AUD each):

I only have a single drive attached to the cable ATM-the current RAID controller is shit.

If you're concerned about heat and noise then grab some 5400 RPM SATA drives. Problems solved and better performance.

These are 2007 5400RPM HDD, among the last (and best ever made) IDE HDD.

They won't for a very long time-I've got 2x 20GB Spinpoint drives of the same build quality and physical design that have been around for over 15 years (1x 5400RPM, 1x 7200RPM). Also, Samsung stuck by their 3 year warranty at a time where all other manufactures had reliability issues and switched to 1 year warranties.

Good thing these are just for backups, but at $19AUD that's still extremely expensive. A 4TB drive on Newegg costs $0.03/GB whereas those 250GB drives cost $0.05/GB so for 4TB of storage you're paying $303.95 for those drives when you can get a single 4TB drive for $196.37 (keep in mind I literally just picked the first hard drive I saw on Newegg's front page, you can most likely get them even cheaper probably).

It wasn't expensive 2 years ago. Combine that with having multiple spare drives and intending to run RAID 5.....

The first card is pretty much what I have now. The second card however I'll try-it if I remember correctly is identical to the controller built into my P5 Deluxe.
